A not-to-be-missed practice development opportunity for those working with children, young people + families with complex needs
The Child and Family Welfare Association of Australia (CAFWAA) and PeakCare Queensland have joined forces to provide a unique opportunity for those working with children, young people and families with complex needs across Australia.
The theme “Their Lives, Our Work: Building Hope through Practice Excellence” encapsulates the Symposium’s goal. We are bringing together research and practice about effective approaches that promote hope and demonstrated change in the lives of children, young people and families and those working with them.
The involvement of young people is critical to the Symposium, and we are pleased to work alongside CREATE Foundation to ensure this perspective is represented. Young people will talk with delegates about their views of building hope and give insight into what it takes to be effective participants in their lives. With a strong commitment to the maintenance of a practice focus, tangible strategies implemented on both individual and program levels will be presented throughout the Symposium. The research and evaluation underpinning these practice approaches will be a core component of the sessions.
Keynote presentations from internationally-recognised experts will provide thought-provoking material to stimulate the practice learning and provide key research material that will be further developed during each day.
The Symposium program provides concurrent sessions across five key areas:
- Early Intervention
- Family and Domestic Violence
- Substance Abuse
- Mental Health
- Loss and Grief
- Management (day 3 only)
Sessions will include intensive workshops from 1½ to 3 hours duration, allowing delegates to immerse themselves in new learning, and emphasising the Symposium’s focus on practice development.
The Messages from Practice showcase will give delegates a snapshot of possibilities from around Australia. Programs across the five key areas that are building hope and demonstrating effective practice in the lives of children, young people and families will be presented in 15 minute time slots (with question/answer opportunities). Learning from each other is a valuable tool in practice development and participation in this forum is encouraged.
